After a lovely summer break, the course will be in fantastic condition and we’ll be raring to get racing again on Haldon Hill with our first of 17 fantastic fixtures, our ‘Season's Opener’, kicking us off on Thursday 6th October.
Our Season's Opener is a fundraiser for the charity Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony, founded by 18-year-old event rider Hannah Francis who passed away in August just 15 months after being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Hannah detailed the ups and downs of her battle and kept up a unique blog and Twitter account looking at her illness from the point of view of her own cuddly toy mascot, called Willberry Wonder Pony. She made every day count and raised more than £115,000 through fundraising events and selling Willberry merchandise. She had the support of many stars from equestrianism including Olympians William Fox-Pitt, Kitty King, Pippa Funnell and Charlotte Du Jardin. In May, Hannah announced that Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony had been approved as a registered charity with all funds raised going towards bone cancer research and granting horsey wishes to those with serious illnesses.
We are donating £1 of every pre-booked ticket to the charity, merchandise will be available to buy and Hannah’s beloved Shetland pony Doris will also be in attendance. Read more here.
